NAUTILE HELP FOR THE DUMB ABOUT NUMBERING THE PINS AND
POSITIONING THE PINS

This will help those who use IsoGridTracer and RKnot Builder, or  make their Regular
Knots by themselves without using a brainless recipe.

TOTAL SUMMARY is in this picture.

Why are the pins numbered  from  0  to n-1  instead of  from  1 to n ?

Simple it make more sense !

It is, using the MODULO,  the only way to get easy computations and it is as easy, if not more, to count from 0.

If you count 2 PINs-STEPs (PINs STEPs are studied in Turkshead_2 )  it seems easier
to be "in step or in phase" and

---  after 2 STEPS arrive on PIN 2 starting from PIN 0
than
--- after 2 STEPS arrive on PIN 3 starting from PIN 1

It is quite easy, IF ONE REMEMBER THE CIRCULARITY ( hence MODULO) to
realize that you may begin your count FROM ANY PIN :

YOU MAY BEGIN YOUR PIN STEPPING ON ANY COLOUR YOU CHOSE AND IT WILL
NOT CHANGE THE KNOT MADE, IT IS JUST THE SAME WITH NUMBERING
AND BEGINNING ON ANY DIGIT/NUMBER YOU WANT IT IS JUST A
QUESTION OF CONVENTION THAT ANY HUMAN BRAIN CAN USE FROM
A VERY EARLY AGE WITHOUT NEEDING A UNUSUALLY  BRIGHT MIND!

Now let us see about how to position the PINS on the TWO BIGHTs RIMs (remember
the 2 different frames of reference = vertical and horizontal.  

In both computers programs it is the Schaake horizontal mandrel that is used : one 
BIGHTs RIM on the LEFT  side ( the starting rim for HP-1) and  one BIGHTs RIM on the RIGHT side ( arrival of each ODD numbered Half-Period and departure of EVEN numbered HP

It is quite easy to see that the DETERMINING FACTOR is the PARITY of the number LEADs

EVEN LEADs number == DO NOT BREAK THE EVENNESS and KEEP THE PINS ALIGNED BETWEEN THE TWO BIGHT RIMS

ODD LEADs number = STAY WITH THE ODDNESS AND OFFSET ONE BIGHT
RIM FROM THE OTHER.
Study attentively and it will be evident .

ANOTHER TIP JUST RECEIVED ABOUT SOMETHING SHOWING WHAT IS
 IMO A STAGGERING IGNORANCE AND  A VERY POISONING ( for people
looking for knowledge) TO THE " I WANT TO LEARN" CANDIDATES

It looks like a....   this is quite bad phenetics once again !
Most probably that person seeing the point of the beak of a platypus breaking surface will state "it looks like a duck so it is a duck and blast the classification rules made by people really knowing how to make them ! 

Does the person realise how dumb and not amusing at all that statement is ?
I doubt it, if only because I feel reading in those words ( hope they were given exactly) a certain pride in being  so ...basic.



If " it does not follow rules" that are exclusively and formally defining a THK then is is not a THK. Simple.

That person, it seems to me, has not yet realised that the rules comes not from the whimsical choice of some person(s) but from the structure of the knot itself and from the coherent, logical observation and study of said knots.
We are being offered by that person only personal whims, delusions and opinions coming from the 'brain's guts' and WE ARE  NOT OFFERED ANY REASONED FACTUAL ARGUMENT, WE JUST GET THE EXPRESSION OF A PERSONAL  POSTURE
UNSUPPORTED BY ARGUMENTS COMING FROM THE HIGHER BRAIN STRUCTURES.


What if I decide to say :
 "this look like a shoes box so it is a shoes box and not a container ?"
Will that change the machine parts container into a shoes box ?
What if I say " this looks like the full moon so it is a full moon", will that make the whitish globe at the tip of  the street lamplight Earth satellite ?

Personal opinions does not change the external reality, only the internal one !


Schaake and Turner's works are based on
observation, sound logic, mathematics and
clearly circumscribe, describe, demonstrate what a THK is. Read The Braider and Regular Knots.
My own writings (before meeting them) are based on mathematics, not personal whims.

THK are not braids

If some knot does not  follow the rules based, not on personal opinions like in this instance but on hard  "reasoning", then it  is not a THK.
I know that "steady and sound reasoning" may happen to be outside the possibilities of some
and that is quite OK with me and no skin off my nose but they should ethically refrain from "poisoning" the minds of other persons who are at risk if they believe such sources or when they are stating their opinion they should flag it with  "my opinion based on my personal whims and  not hard fact".


Look, study and analyse with  a sharp, open, intellect what it said to you.
Never accept " blunt affirmation of opinion or creed that are not backed with full reasoning and factual argumentation.
Do not accept "opinion"  as "fact, ever !

THK = single-strand knot (not structurally a braid, but some like to use the 'label' braid)
following a distinctive cordage route obeying equations leading to the GCD rule with a
particular O1-U1 ( U1 - O1) coding of crossings. ( see my articles on the Mathematics of THK written well before I ever set an eye on Schaake and Turner's work and see Regular Knots and The Braider by Schaake and Turner rather than risk your knottyer competence with "opinions", keep only demonstrated facts and rejected the deluded affirmation of creed.



Read, study and makes your own  judgement about the soundness of the arguments of all parties while discarding ALL of what is simply "opinions" ( 'brain's farts') more or less brilliantly or forcefully asserted!
