Another
question that I encountered here and there that sadden me by
the
implied lack
of
personal thinking (I am no horseman even if some in my family are
riding regularly
(certainly not with bosal and such : would be
considered "bizarre" I suppose ;
we are more of the " Haute Ecole de
Cavalerie" school than the Cow Boy School I guess)
Is a HEEL knot a Pineapple
or not a Pineapple ?
I
would like those persons to realise that just as a refrigerator is no
more in
all case a
FRIGIDAIRE (which is a brand of refrigerator only), a HEEL
knot is ONLY
A FUNCTION in horsing gear and not a knot per se.
Any knot capable if having the function
of a HEEL KNOT is good, it just
happen
that a PINEAPPLE is adequate.
The function
of this knot is to be just like a hand made into a
fist holding together the
two extremities of a piece called the nose band in horsing gear. It is
something that
could remind one of the chin piece in the bridle of a
military helmet.
So don't be mistakenly thinking that it is a SPECIAL FORMULA of a knot
it is
only a SPECIAL UTILISATION of a knot.
Knots are tools and they areto be used to solve specific problem : the
specific problem
of keeping joined the 2 extremities of a nose band ( bosal ? ) is
solved
by a knot called the
HEEL knot.
ANY knot having this capability can be a heel knot. ( plus acting as
counter-weight of
course )
Miscellany remarks
*** Grant HEEL KNOT == page
134 to 137 of his Encyclopaedia.
He advocate either a SPANISH ring knot or a side-button knot
as
"foundation knot" to close the two extremities of the bosal
together and says
that
the best to cover thisfoundation knot is the pineapple.( that
is the button
knot of
Argentinian gauchos ) This is atthis occasion the he state that the
( the true one of course and not
what pass to many uneducated eyes for
a pineapple under the simplistic
pretext that it is an interweave ! )
pineapple is The King of Braided Knots ( page 134 ) : start 5L 4B THK
raised to a7L 6B then start the interweave with a 5L 6B THK
*** If an interweave it just does not make it a Pineapple : a pineapple
is
an
interweave but all interweave are not Pineapple !
